When it comes to eBooks, there's NOT eNOUGH

In spite of the efforts of libraries to add to their digital collections, the major publishing companies have been less than cooperative in working with libraries to do just that.

ListenNJ Policy Change

Please be aware that there has been a change in ListenNJ policy which is effective immediately.

You now have 3 days to pick up your HOLDs in ListenNJ. (Previously you had five days).

Don't be fooled by the name. ListenNJ now offers a collection of over 1,300 ebooks in an ever growing collection (as well as over 6,000 audiobooks available for download).

Remember to chooose Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium as your library.

FREEGAL - downloadable music

FREEGAL is here.

The South River Library has purchased downloadable, DRM free music for you to enjoy. All you need is your library card.

* Every week you can download 3 tunes with your library card.

* For more information and to create an account, click on FREEGAL in the left hand column on our website.

* You can apply for a library card online. (Thanks to LMxAC, our library consortium).

What's Happening?

Well, I 'm glad you asked. And the answer is lot's of things.

Summer is the perfect time to read for fun ...

It's Summertime, and that means Summer Reading Programs and Events. Information for Summer Programming can be reached by going to our homepage at www.southriverlibrary.org
and clicking on the the picture you see above. You supply the enthusiasm and we'll supply the fun.

AND remember that Expansion that we've been talking about? Well, we're finally going to start building. Stay tuned for more information on that front.

AND we have recently subscribed to a downloadable music service called FREEGAL. You will be able to log in with your library card, and download 3 tunes a week. This music will be DRM free and represents lots of popular artists.

As soon as I get the information on how to connect, I will load that link on our webpage. So make sure you have your library card at the ready.

Did you know??
The Library subscribes to VISUAL THESAURUS, a database that gives you all kinds of information about words and language. You can explore words through this very inviting interface that locates your word at the center of a diagram. One of it's features is a set of boxes to the right which break down the word into its various usages as a noun, adjective, verb, or adverb. You can even turn these on or off if you want to concentrate on only one part of speech.

You'll need to scroll a little to find the Visual Thesaurus link. Once you reach the VT homepage, click on HOW IT WORKS in the menu at the top of the page.

* Oh,and have your Library card ready, you'll be prompted for your number at the Login Screen.

Don't Be Fooled by the Name ...

ListenNJ is our downloadable platform. This service began several years ago, with audiobooks. Formats that were friendly to iPod devices were then added, and recently eBooks were added. The latest addition is a console that can be viewed/listened to on your iPhone.

ListenNJ includes more than 5,000 audiobook titles, and more than 600 eBook titles, in a growing collection that is added to monthly.

Audiobook titles can be downloaded to your computer, transferred to an MP3 player, and many titles can be burned to disc to use in your car. Information about Compatible audio devices can be found here.

eBooks are in ePub format. Basic information can be found in this HELP file. You can find information about eBook compatible devices here. The Kindle is not compatible because of the ePub file format, and while the iPad can handle the ePub format, it is not compatible because of DRM (DIGITAL RIGHTS MANAGEMENT) restrictions.
